Me at Susie's wedding

A Gambit

Was it true
as she claimed
I sucked the color
out of rooms I entered
leaving less behind
then when I came?

At the time, I thought it
		just a party trick,
		nothing but a game,
		a switch to throw,a way
		to light it up,
		have a hit, have two,
		a spelling lesson where
		"enough" is M-O-R-E.

No, she said,
it's another American
capitalistic hegomonic gambit
and, if I stood between
the sun and she, sure
I'd get the rays,
the Vitamin D,
the tan while
she'd get frosted and
be forced to deal with
chilblains and moss
growing green around her heart.
